At Versed, we believe in using our skills to create impact that goes beyond the commercial. Sometimes, the most powerful stories aren’t found in boardrooms or campaign reports, they’re out on the road (or in this case, the desert).
That’s why we’re proud to be supporting the Ride for Men’s Sheds, an extraordinary solo motorcycle expedition that will see Alex Turner cross Australia’s Simpson Desert twice to raise awareness and funds for the Australian Men’s Shed Association.
The journey covers more than 1,100 kilometres of remote sand dunes, with no support crew and no margin for error. Alongside the physical challenge, Alex and filmmaker Daniel Swinton will share the deeper story: how Men’s Sheds quietly transform lives by giving men a place to build, connect, and find purpose.
“This is about celebrating resilience and connection,” Alex says. “Riding across the desert is just one part of the story. It’s really an opportunity to shine a light on the work Men’s Sheds do every day, creating spaces where men can learn new skills, build friendships, and feel part of something bigger than themselves. I hope this journey inspires more people to get behind an organisation that’s making a genuine difference in communities right across Australia.”
Versed is proud to be providing pro bono media and communications support for the Ride for Men’s Sheds, as well as contributing a cash sponsorship to help Alex reach his fundraising goal.
“When Alex shared his vision, it was impossible not to be inspired,” says Rachael Hedges, Founder and Director of Versed. “The values behind Men’s Sheds of connection, purpose, and mateship are close to our hearts. We wanted to use our capabilities to amplify the impact and help tell this story well.”
Men’s Sheds are proven to reduce social isolation, improve mental health, and offer older men in particular a place to feel valued. Supporting this project felt like a small but meaningful way we could help more Australians hear about the work these sheds do every day.
